At North Heights Christian Academy (NHCA) we recognize that proficient reading skills are essential for a student’s present and future academic success. In order to encourage student reading, NHCA, in collaboration with the NHCA Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF), developed an Annual NHCA Read-A-Thon. The PTF offers students prizes for individual and class-wide minutes read during the competition. The Read-A-Thon also acts as a fundraiser for NHCA. Students solicit sponsors who pledge money for each minute a student reads during the event. This event has consistently raised reading interest and aptitude in the student body, as well as raising funds for new science equipment and technology.

  • 93% of students participated in the read a thon by turning in at least one reading slip.
  • Students finished strong by making the final week the most minutes read.  Way to go!
  • Students read a total of 242,589 minutes.  WOW!  Who knows how many books that represents??
  • Classes K3 through 5 all had 100% from students over the entire read a thon.  Way to go 100% classes!
  • Total money raised was about $25,000!
